Mar 6, 2010 - This has indeed been restored, but other studios' stuff from that same period also has been at this point, including MGM's. (Tom and Jerry hadn't yet started when this was made, though they were pretty much just about to.)BTW, Star Wars was released by 20th Century Fox, not MGM.

Mar 6, 2010 - He actually didn't do the voice until he died. He stopped doing it around 1947 because his voice had been roughened by chain smoking. It wasn't his nephew that took over the voice, it was Jim MacDonald, the guy who headed the studio sound effects department. He just happened to be good at imitating the part, so he got it. (Disney did do Mickey's voice one more time, though---for the "Mickey Mouse Club" intro segments in the 50s.)

Mar 6, 2010 - Yep, the new eyes were first made for "The Sorceror's Apprentice," but that ended up not being released for about 2 years because then they got the idea for " Fantasia" and built the whole movie around it, so "Apprentice" had to wait until the rest of the "Fantasia" was done. In the meantime, the new eye design had leaked out into the regular cartoons, so people saw the first few "new eyes" ones before they saw "Sorceror's Apprentice," even though it was made first.

Mar 6, 2010 - Well, the real reason the dot eyes were changed is that the artists just felt that they were too limiting---they couldn't get enough expressions out of them. They were right, but still, I do think the black eyes gave Mickey a certain pixieish charm that the updated one never quite had.
